Taste of Summer

It's Bacardi Flavors Time. The Portfolio Of Seven Fruit Flavored Rums Delivers The Quintessential Taste Of Summer.

(July 31, 2008) The word of the day -- and of the year for that matter -- is flavor. These days customers want flavors in their spirits, the more exotic the better. Bacardi, with its line of seven flavored rums, is there with the flavors of summer for refreshing cocktails on a hot day.

It's hard to argue with the success of Bacardi flavored rums. Flavored clear spirits in general are big news in Kansas retail stores and nationally, accounting for 11.7 percent of the spirits market. Flavored spirits sales grew 8.4 percent last year compared with 4.8 percent growth for unflavored spirits and 4.9 percent growth for the spirits category as a whole.

For rum, the trend has been particularly dramatic. Rum consumption has overtaken whiskey and experts predict it will overtake brandy by 2010. That will leave rum second only to vodka in consumer preferences.   In the U.S., rum is already second only to vodka in consumer preference, accounting for 12.3 percent of all spirits sales. Sales increased about 5.3 percent last year.

Bacardi as the top selling white rum in the world is leading that growth with programs like the Bacardi Mojito, the no carbohydrate message of Bacardi and diet cola, and above all the flavored rums.

This trend toward flavored spirits has been going on in vodka for a number of years, as evidenced by the multitude of flavored vodkas flooding the market on an almost daily basis.

Bacardi is in the enviable position of leading the market in flavored rums. Four of the six best selling spirits flavors are included in Bacardi's flavor lineup: Bacardi Coco, Limon, Razz, and Bacardi O.   Bacardi Red Peach -- launched in 2007 -- takes advantage of the 15.8 percent increase in peach flavored spirits last year. Flavor innovations like Bacardi Grand Melón and Bacardi Big Apple draw new customers to the category.

There is another reason Bacardi Flavors should enjoy even more success than flavored vodkas: The Bacardi name.    Bacardi flavored rums come from the top-selling premium distilled spirits brand in the world.   Bacardi originated the flavored rum category with the introduction of Bacardi Limón in 1995. With the continued growth of Bacardi Limón and the rest of the portfolio, the Bacardi Flavored Rums are set for future success.

Even more important than the history and heritage is the taste. Every sip of Bacardi Flavored Rums delivers real fruit flavor - flavors that have long been consumer favorites, flavors people associate wth summer. This is another way to enjoy the flavor they love with the brand name they know and trust.

The Bacardi Flavors are available in Kansas through Standard Beverage.
